Presenting at the Graduate Center Dissertation Showcase 2026

I was honored to be selected as one of the doctoral researchers featured in the 2026 Dissertation Showcase at The Graduate Center, City University of New York (CUNY). The event brought together a small group of Ph.D. candidates from across disciplines to present their dissertation research to a broad academic audience, alumni, students, and members of the public.

The showcase challenged presenters to communicate years of research in just a few minutes while making their work accessible to a general audience. Being chosen to represent the Economics program among researchers from across the Graduate Center was both a privilege and a rewarding experience.

My Presentation

My presentation focused on my dissertation research examining how occupations, skills, and economic advantages are transmitted across generations and how these processes contribute to income inequality in the United States.

Drawing on large-scale longitudinal and census datasets, my research investigates how parental occupations and occupational skills influence children’s career choices and earnings outcomes. By combining traditional econometric methods with machine learning techniques, I seek to better understand the mechanisms that shape economic opportunity and intergenerational mobility.

Reflections

One of the most challenging aspects of research is learning how to communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely. The Dissertation Showcase provided a unique opportunity to present years of work to a diverse audience in an engaging and accessible format.

I am grateful to the Graduate Center for organizing this event and to everyone who attended, supported, and encouraged the presenters. I am especially thankful to my advisor, Professor Miles Corak, for his guidance throughout my doctoral studies.

As I prepare to join the Amrut Mody School of Management at Ahmedabad University as an Assistant Professor, this event was a meaningful way to share the culmination of my doctoral research and reflect on the journey that brought me here.
